Credits, explained
Reads are always free. Protected functions use credits.
Reading ECU identification and fault codes never costs anything. Protected functions — like a service-indicator reset — consume a credit. Credits come from activation codes: during the Danish launch phase, Dennis hands these out for free at meetups; later, activation codes will be sold. Each activation stores a random device key, a device id, platform, app version, brand, your credit ledger, and an audit log of key requests (a seed prefix only — never your VIN or odometer reading) on RideDiag's servers. Credits are non-refundable, except where EU or Danish consumer law requires otherwise.

Is this official?
No. RideDiag is an independent, third-party diagnostic tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Piaggio & C. S.p.A. (Moto Guzzi) or BMW AG / BMW Motorrad. It is not a dealer tool and carries no OEM approval.
Will it void my warranty?
Reading diagnostic data does not modify your motorcycle. Any write function (clear faults, service reset, odometer-related write) changes data stored in the ECU or dashboard, and only runs through catalog-verified sequences that RideDiag refuses to perform unless verified. Whether a given change affects your warranty depends on your manufacturer's and dealer's terms — check with them if unsure. RideDiag is a diagnostic aid, not a substitute for a workshop.
Which dashboard versions are supported?
Support varies by brand and model. See the Moto Guzzi and BMW Motorrad pages for the exact models and dashboard versions currently supported, and check back — coverage is expanding.
Do I need internet?
No, not for reading. Reads, live data and freeze frames all work offline. Internet is only needed for protected functions, to redeem a credit against RideDiag's activation service.
What data does RideDiag collect?
RideDiag is local-first and has no user account. Your VIN, odometer readings and reports stay on your device. Activating credits stores a device key, device id, platform, app version, brand, and your credit ledger on RideDiag's servers — see the privacy policy for full detail.
What happens if I use RideDiag to commit odometer fraud?
Odometer-related writes exist for legitimate repair and instrument-replacement scenarios only. You are responsible for complying with the law in your jurisdiction; see the terms of service.
What if my battery is low or my ignition is off?
Keep the ignition on and battery voltage at 12.0 V or above during any write operation. RideDiag checks this, but a stable connection is your responsibility — a dropped connection during a write can leave the ECU or dashboard in an inconsistent state.
